This short essay reflects on Steven Seidenberg’s images of the Riforma Fondiaria in Italy, which you can read more about in this article in Places journal. My essay explores the different forms of value creation that surround such images, focusing in particular on the labour of plants in relation to decay and the work that photographic documentation itself plays when it comes to the production of heritage.
This volume forms an accompaniment to Seidenberg’s book of photographs The Architecture of Silence: Abandoned Lives of the Italian South.
